Tabitha Leech is the Manager of the newly created Language & Culture Department at T’ít’q’et Administration, where she leads comprehensive language and cultural revitalization initiatives. As a proud T’ít’q’et member, she brings over eight years of experience in Indigenous language revitalization and program management to her role.

 

Prior to this position, Tabitha served as Chairperson of the P’egp’íg’lha Language Revitalization Group (PLRG), collaboratively developing foundational programs that now serve as the cornerstone for T’ít’q’et’s expanded Language & Culture Department.

 

Tabitha’s education reflects deep commitment to traditional learning methods, having been trained by mentors throughout the St’át’imc Nation. She completed two years of mentor-apprentice training through the First Peoples Cultural Council, 3 years of mentor-apprentice training through PLRG programs, Total Immersion Plus 1 & 2 programs, and holds a St’át’imcets Language Fluency Diploma (2022).

 

In her current role, Tabitha oversees programming across: language revival, cultural revival, heritage promotion, and community wellness. Passionate about Nt’akmenlhkálha (our ways) and Nqwal’uttenlhkálha (our language), she envisions bringing all 11 St’át’imc communities together in collaboration and healing, leading by example as her mentors taught her.

 

As a working mother of Súxwem (Beau) and Múts’leqs (Jrae), Tabitha lives her commitment to cultural revitalization daily. Together with her partner Súki Tílalus (Lamarr Williams), they are passionate advocates for strengthening their St’át’imc identity to ensure their children have a strong foundation to keep their ways and language alive.
